Your Party Publishes Draft Founding Documents

Written by Democratic Socialists | 17 Oct 2025

After months of speculation, days to go before the first assemblies, and 6 weeks before founding conference, Your Party has finally published documents that members will have to deliberate on to determine the party’s critical structures.

Democratic Socialists was founded to ensure Your Party could be as robustly democratic as necessary; to offer structures that enable the left to strengthen our forces over generations, not just between elections. A large part of our programme lies precisely in the finer details of these documents which determine the shape of party officialdom.

Our model constitution has been in constant deliberation and refinement by our constitutional working group for over two months. We will now be scrutinising Your Party documentation to determine its points of alignment and its shortcomings compared to our own proposals. In the meantime, you can read our proposed constitutional campaign points, including a sovereign conference, 50% of funds to local branches, and mandatory re-selection for all MPs.

On Saturday 18 October, we’re hosting a public event online, Constituting Power: How Democratic Socialists can shape Your Party’s foundations and in the next week, we’ll be organising a public meeting to share our detailed analysis, our vision for the constitution and how we can win.

We need your knowledge, suggestions, and vision too, so if you haven’t already, join the campaign.
